"Beauty
and the Bass" entertain with Sultry Jazz Songs
Listeners are surprised to
hear that jazz performed with only upright bass and vocals can sound so
good. This unique duo carries listeners back in time when legends such
as Ella and Billie ruled the stage. With their hunger to learn jazz standards
primarily from the 30s and 40s, they seek to carry out the true spirit
of the songs while giving each performance a unique flavor. Martin and
Kai often connect with the audience by encouraging certain talents to
sit in with them, as there usually happens to be a singer or sax player
nearby.
Kai Brant performed extensively as a
singer-songwriter before recently choosing to pursue her love of jazz.
Her extraordinary voice revives the songs composed by such greats as the
Gershwins, Irving Berlin and Cole Porter. Kai seeks to give her audience
the spirit of an era by using her voice and grace as a reminder of those
exceptional women who once lived.
Martin Motnik, born and raised in
Ludwigshafen, Germany, is a seasoned musician performing bass for the
past 20 years. His interest in jazz attracted him to the upright bass
which offers both physical and mental challenges. Since he and his bass
are now the entire band, he has the unique opportunity to provide
melody, rhythm and harmony all in one.
